uTorrent Web lets you control torrent downloads on your iPhone

uTorrent Web lets you control torrent downloads on your iPhone

Torrent control applications aren't ever going to make it into the App Store. But that's OK -- your iPhone or iPod touch has a Web browser onboard, and that's capable of running plenty of Web apps that Apple can't ban.

Torrent Web, for example, which brings the remote control power of the Falcon project to your iPhone. Falcon debuted recently, providing slick zero-config access to your torrent queue from anywhere you've got a Web browser. If -- like me -- you tried to use Torrent Falcon on your iPhone, however, you found that it stopped responding during the login process.

Torrent Web, however, works beautifully. The Windows desktop app and complete instructions on enabling remote access is available for download here. Once you've created an account and signed in, remote control is as simple as opening web.utorrent.com on your iPhone and signing in.
Functionality is limited, but the essentials are there. You can paste in a torrent URI from another app on your iPhone to initiate a transfer remotely and pause active torrents. Concerned about your privacy? Have a read through BitTorrent's post about architecting for user privacy.

No, this won't allow you to download torrents directly onto your non-jailbroken iPhone -- but it will at least allow you to start new transfers on your home machine (which probably has a boatload more free drive space anyway) from wherever in the world you currently happen to be.

It's not as slick as Transdroid for Android phones, but Torrent Web is a must-have web app for iPhone users who torrent files.
