A Flashback…
Grand Theft Auto III or GTA III as it is commonly called was released a decade ago in October 2001 to critical and commercial success, and has since been ruling the hearts of gamers all over the world. It was the first 3D, open-world Grand Theft Auto title and introduced players to the fictitious Liberty City. The GTA III has since been acclaimed for its cinematic exuberance, an innovative approach to open-ended gameplay and an unparalleled fusion of gaming and popular culture.
As the game initiates with you (the user) landing up into crime ridden Liberty City, the game progresses with you being betrayed, jailed, and later broken out. The game takes you along on a journey that moves on to climb various crime ladders as you interact with gangsters, drug lords, the mafia, and more.
The highlight of GTA III is that in spite of being R-rated, the characters are well crafted caricatures and stereotypes with exce3llent voice-overs to support them. The graphics even though dated and the pop up actually noticeable now, still look great in HD. The soundtrack is undoubtedly a pleasure to the ears. Although there are a lot of functions mapped to the PS2 controller with too many buttons crammed onto the screen; you can however control movement with a touch-anywhere left thumb-stick.
Moreover, you have the liberty of exercising various virtual buttons to control your jump, sprint, attack, accelerate, reverse, brake, and other various functions. Also, you can move the camera by swiping the middle of the screen; while you need to touch the corners for using the mini-map or changing weapons. All in all, get used to the controls, and GTA III is a game worth playing.
