Rivalries and competitions have always been an interesting thing to watch for a bystander, even in the technological world. And indeed with the dawn of the New Year it seems another competition is starting to blossom. This particular conflict that I speak of is between is a rumored one, and it is in between Kindle, and iPad. Although both have already been competing tablets, rumor has that Apple is developing a new 7.85 inch tablet to compete with the newer range of tablet devices, specifically the Amazon Kindle Fire.

It is also rumored that the company has already started to source products for this new device, so that production can begin by mid-next year.

Digitimes has reported news by its sources in the supply chain:

In addition to purchasing 7.85-inch panels from LG Display, Apple will also buy panels from AU Optronics (AUO), indicated the sources, adding that makers in the supply chain are likely to begin production of the 7.85-inch models at the end of the second quarter of 2012.

So why is Apple introducing 7.85 inch tablet to compete with the 7 inch Kindle Fire? Well, further rumor has that Apple is trying to catch two fish with one hook. It is indicated through sources that Apple has been persuaded to compete with not only the Kindle Fire, but also the newer range of large sized smartphones by many different vendors. This rumor, if of any integral value, while an interesting twist ot the iPad model, goes completely against the words of the Late iCEO, Steve Jobs, “10-inches is the minimum tablet size”, and “7-inch tablets are tweeners; too big to compete against a smartphone, and too small to compete with the iPad.”

In other rumor on the same subject it is also heard that Apple is also releasing its next generation of iPads by the end of the first quarter of 2012. This acceleration in the project is in response to the apparent market demand, and market expectation for the device. From the same source as above:

“Global shipments of tablet PCs are expected to reach 60 million units in 2011, of which 70% will be Apple’s iPads. To cash in on market demand as well as market expectations, Apple is expected to release its next-generation iPads at the end first-quarter 2012.”
