Till date, I’ve travelled to 15 countries across 4 continents. Being a travel addict, I make it a point to travel to at least one new destination every year. Though I strongly believe that Lonely Planet is the best travel app for the iPad, it falls short when I’m looking for some quick answers to my travel questions. I’ve often wished for a travel genie app which could answer all my questions and ‘Ask a Nomad‘ iPad app fits the bill nicely.
Developed by WorldNomads.com, a global travel services company, the ‘Ask a Nomad’ app provides valuable travel information, answers to Frequently Asked Questions and local assistance from other like-minded travelers around the world. The idea is to leverage the wealth of information present on several Travel Knowledge Network sites and combine it with geo location to find content nearby. It’s like a Quora dedicated to your travel questions.
The first step is to create an account on WorldNomads.com – this can be done through the website or directly from the iPad app.
First things first, I love apps with unconventional yet attractive user interfaces and there’s no doubt that ‘Ask a Nomad’ belongs to that elusive category.
The app is hierarchically organized into several regions. You can choose a region and then drill down to a specific country and city that you want to lookup. Questions and answers are neatly organized in an easy to use manner. You can browse existing questions and answers about a specific location or ask questions.
Users can ask a question by tapping the big blue button on the bottom left side of the screen. Enter the subject, location, description and hit the ‘Ask’ button. You can also answer questions asked by other users by tapping the orange “Add Your Answer” button and typing in your answer.
It’s possible to add a question as your favorite by tapping the star next to it. You can also search all the questions by keywords.
All in all, the app is easy to use courtesy its intuitive user interface. In addition to the iPad app, users can also get answers to their travel questions from the Ask a Nomad web application. Here’s a video of the ‘Ask a Nomad‘ app in action.
