A week ago, we covered an app called Icon Project that lets you easily create shortcut icons on home screen for various settings such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Airplane mode. For just $0.99, the app does what it advertised and you can even use the app to add contact shortcut for speed dial.
However, some readers asked if there is any free alternative for creating Setting shortcut. Thanks to Jeff Broderick for developing a set of beautiful shortcut icons and make them free for download.
How to Install Shortcut Icon
Jeff’s free solution does pretty much the same as Icon Project app. But you don’t need to download an app for adding the shortcut. To install the shortcut icons, just point your mobile Safari browser to http://brdrck.me/settings/. The designer has created a pre-defined set of icons for accessing a specific setting directly.
Let’s say you want to add the Brightness icon. Just tap on it and tap “Install Brightness Shortcut”. You’ll then be prompted to install the profile. Just tap “Install” and confirm the installation. That’s it.
When you go back to the home screen, you’ll find the brightness icon added in the home screen. Just repeat the procedures to add other icons.
If You Need Customization…
This free solution is really great. However, it only limits you to add the pre-made set of Setting icons. If you want to customize the appearance of icon or add speed-dial icon onto the home screen, you may still need to check out the Icon Project app.
