Knowing more words and expanding your vocabulary is helpful no matter what industry you’re in. Dictionary.com is one of the most popular websites for providing definitions and with its Android app, you’ll have easy access to every word you can think of (and some you can’t) on the go. They have done a fantastic job with the app, making it extremely user friendly and feature rich, even including a helpful widget.
When the app first opens, the home screen will display the word of the day. If you swipe right, you’ll see the Spanish word of the day, followed by the Question of the Day and then ‘The Hot Word’, which displays an interesting fact. There is a search bar up top if you’re looking for a specific word. Along the bottom, there are various options including: Favorites, which allows you to save words you would like to go back to later, Search again, Voice, which allows you to dictate a word rather than type and More. In the More section, you can provide feedback, change backgrounds or share the app with a friend.
A great feature of is the ability to switch between Dictionary mode and Thesaurus mode. Whenever you have a word open, you’ll either see a D or a T button depending on which mode you’re currently in (if you’re in Dictionary mode, you’ll see T). Pressing the button will bring you to the other.
The Word of the Day widget is also handy. It simply displays the Word of the Day preventing you from having to go into the app. Clicking on the widget will bring you to the word within the app.
If you want to have easy access to Dictionary.com in a simple interface, check out Dictionary.com, available free from the Android Market. Find links to the app and more pictures after the break.
