Last week CutYourSim launched a remote iPhone unlock service that works for all models of iPhone including iPhone 4 with the latest version of baseband. Just a week since its debut, the company now announces they no longer accept new order of the remote unlocking.

Unlike the ultrasn0w unlock, the unlocking service offered by CutYourSim is claimed to be permanent and without the need of jailbreaking. Once unlock you’re free to upgrade to future iOS version without worry about unlocking. The unlock approach is to register the IMEI number of your iPhone into a what-so-called whitelist database. As your device is registered in that database, Apple will consider it as an unlock iPhone. CutYourSim does not have any relations with Apple. Obviously, however, the company find other ways (possible via someone with official access) to access the whilelist database.

The permanent unlocking service, which originally costs $170 per device, is now discontinued. For customers who have paid for the service, the company will refund your order via Paypal or Google Checkout.

The company doesn’t mention the reason why the service is discontinued. According to CultOfMac, it seems even CutYourSim don’t know the reason:

“Unfortunately, we were not able to complete the rest of the unlocks waiting in our queue due to our suppliers being unable to offer the service anymore,” CutYourSim told Cult of Mac. “Our suppliers have told us that there is a possibility that the service may return, but they do not know when, so we have decided to start processing refunds for any orders that we were not able to complete.”

“To tell you the truth, first our supplier told us there were server issues, then after that they just told us that they will not be offering the service anymore. We are not sure where the service comes from, or whether it’s a contact through AT&T or Apple. We do know that the service is performed in the UK, but that’s about it.”

For those who are waiting for the unlock, as CutYourSim’s service is closed, it seems there is no way to unlock iPhone 4 running on the latest baseband. We know the iPhone Dev team is working hard to figure out a way for the unlock. However, as of now, we still do not have any news about when iPhone Dev team will release a solution.

Anyone of you have purchased CutYourSim’s unlocking service? Did you manage to have your iPhone unlocked before it discontinues the service?
