Organizing conferences and meetings is often considered to be a thankless job. Conference organizers and corporate event managers work tirelessly to iron out each detail - agenda, maps, speaker bios, training manuals, lunch and refreshments, logistics etc. If something or the other goes wrong, all the effort is spent down the drain. Moreover, such events inevitably consume tons of paper and pose a threat to the environment. Thankfully, Conference Companion – an iOS app built by Parliant Corporation provides a one-stop answer to all these challenges.
The Conference Champion app is founded on “seven simple ideas” which help event organizers in some way or the other. These include publishing latest conference information in a paperless mode, helping attendees find the conference venue as per the planned schedule, enabling speakers, attendees and exhibitors to interact with each other, and overall streamlining the process of organizing such events.
Though the concept of “Green Meetings” has been around for several years, it’s easier said than applied in real life. A quick glance at the Conference Champion app features was enough to convince me that the folks at Parliant have put in a lot of effort to chalk out even the minutest details of organizing such events. I especially like the Schedule Browser feature which provides advanced capabilities to plan out the conference in advance, browse sessions, and to search for sessions. The app also supports advertisements thereby providing an additional advertising stream for exhibitors.
Parliant already has several big customers onboard including American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Canadian Media Production Association. The obvious limitation is that not every visitor carries an iPhone or an iPad. An alternative solution is to supply iPod touch devices to all attendees either for the conference duration or cover the device cost as part of conference registration fee.
None the less, Conference Champion is a mighty effective solution to organize paperless conferences in a hassle-free manner.
